The Pivot Six team is made up of digital creatives living and working from all corners of the globe. Over the years, we've mastered the art of running a thriving, fully remote agency and we wanted to introduce you to a few of our key creative collaborators who contribute to our success.

First up: Rachelle Hay, the founder of Salt and Shimmer, a blog which was awarded Best Caribbean Travel Blog 2016 by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (no big deal!) As a social media consultant, Rachelle helps Pivot Six and our clients with social media management, content creation, and other marketing projects. Rachelle holds an MBA from Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business and is no stranger to pivoting careers. Read on to learn more about Rachelle’s career pivot, what motivates her, and lots more.

Your source of motivation:

Connection. Balance. Affection.

I'm driven by the pursuit of genuine bonds and relationships, a desire to find balance between work and play (or turn work into play), and the presence of a warm and loving support circle that pushes for greatness in each other.

Your purpose on this planet:

I'd be pretending if I said I knew the answer to this! For now, I'll say it aligns with achieving happiness and igniting it in others along the way.

Your greatest achievement or proudest moment:

In line with the very name of this company, I made a "pivot" from my career in the finance industry to create a new remote work life, launch my life+style blog, Salt and Shimmer and start building a social media presence via @rachellehay. This was one of the most challenging pivots I've ever made, and I could not have done it without the support of my husband Graeme who happens to be a tech rockstar.

What are you reading right now?

  • The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A refreshing read that helps me learn how to allocate my thoughts and energy for the better

  • The Intent to Live: With my interest in TV and film, I knew I had to read this acting bible; it not only imparts skill for the craft but also for living life

The advice you wish you received when you were young:

Believe in your power, even before you feel it.

What was your dream job as a child?

As a young girl growing up in the Caribbean islands of Trinidad & Tobago, I was exposed to the creativity of Carnival and this translated into me wanting to be a jewellery designer.

The three people you’re dying to invite over for a dinner party?

Without the limitation of time, I'd love to host Lucille Ball, Tatiana Maslany and my Grandmother for dinner.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Wellness, Freedom and Impact. Holistic wellness and health, freedom from limits (whether they be related to location, finances or societal constructs), and a measure of impact to even a few people.

What is your greatest fear or regret?

I have a fear of not showing enough gratitude and love to the people that are dear to me. This serves as a personal reminder to communicate this more often!

How do you usually spend your days and evenings?

Each day has the potential to look different. As I write this and reflect on a recent week, it has varied from working on client content, to getting sweaty in a workout session, to collaborating with a designer where I wore their pieces for a photoshoot to launch their new collection.

Favourite part of what you do for a living?

One of the things I value heavily is ownership of my time, and not being beholden to a traditional 9-to-5 regimen. The ability to work creatively, and to purposely craft my days on my own terms is invaluable in my eyes.

Why do you like collaborating with Pivot Six?

Simply put -- the people. I'm incredibly grateful to work with the passionate and genuine individuals who make up the Pivot Six team. These gems are overflowing with authenticity, and they have your back! They are truly invested in the long-term success of their clients and will always go the extra mile -- and more.
